RGU students conduct RAWEP to mark World Food Day

RONO HILLS, Oct 16: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) agriculture B.Sc. (Hons) final year students, now engaged in Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP), organized an awareness at Lekhi village on Wednesday to mark World Food Day.

Faculty members of the department, farmers, children, students joined enthusiastically joined the event, themed ‘Right to food for a better life and a better future’, after a procession across the village.

RAWEP co-coordinator Dr. Bai Koyu, while addressing the gathering, underscored importance of World Food Day and advocated nutrition-sensitive agriculture.

Students, including Nguli Lombi, Rita Sari, Likpung Tabri and Kaling Dodung, also spoke on benefits of sustainable agriculture, healthy eating, backyard farming, need for farm diversification, negative impacts of alcohol and tobacco consumption.

Faculty members Dr. Susmita Chakraborty emphasized value of horticultural crops while Pooja Tamuk and  Lenmem Yosung discussed significance of mulching and conservation agriculture. Ebhi Mihu also spoke followed by seed distribution.

The event aligned with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of “Zero Hunger,” promoting sustainable food production and reducing food waste, according to a RGU release.
